This post has been edited from @TimshelXYZ Loot Royalty DAO proposal.
It includes the full details (and relevant links) for the Gitcoin Lootverse Ecosystem Grants Round.
The proposal passed unanimously on June 2nd, 2022.
The Lootverse Ecosystem Round will begin on Wednesday, June 8th.
→ Please refer to this Lootverse Ecosystem Round brief for details on grant eligibility and process.
*Grants submitted after the first week of the round will not be accepted or qualify for matching. Please try to submit your project’s application before the round begins (June 8), to ensure your grant is approved and put into active status for the entire round. There is typically a 2 to 3 day review period after being submitted before grants are published.*
Advancing the Lootverse with a Gitcoin Ecosystem Round
What is the Lootverse?
Loot is an NFT collection created by Dom Hofmann that serves as the canonical foundation and scaffolding for a massively-multiplayer collaborative world-building experiment.
The Lootverse is the decentralized, collaboratively-created world that’s being built on top of Loot’s foundation: an on-chain ecosystem of interconnected games, stories, lore, art, characters, multimedia & more.
→ See this presentation for a deep dive into foundational principles and a “North Star” for the Lootverse community.
Governance / Background:
• Loot’s RoyaltyDAO = the on-chain treasury that contains Loot’s royalties, which is governed through an on-chain voting process that was established in LIP-3 in October 2021.
• The LIP-3 proposal links to the Loot-talk post that lays out the process for proposals made to RoyaltyDAO, and the required quorum (>160 bags to vote). In this same post, a list of ideas for how the funds could be put to use, and the top idea in the list is in fact “Gitcoin-style matching pools.”
• As of this writing, the RoyaltyDAO treasury contains 238 ETH from OpenSea royalties. In the trailing 90 days from today (5/27/22), the treasury has added 50 ETH from royalties.
Purpose:
This 75 ETH will distributed through quadratic matching, and go towards:
Lootverse public goods
Early stage Lootverse projects and builders
Bringing the Lootverse to life with stories & multimedia
In more detail:
Lootverse public goods could include:
Updates to the Lootproject.com website
The Quest Board: a bounty board for the Lootverse
Loot.foundation: a “lore development kit” for the Lootverse
Loot Town Squares, community organizing, community tools, Discord UX
Social media & content marketing
A new Lootverse-wide subgraph
A new and improved Loot Stats contract
The Loot distillation contract and bridge to Starknet
…And more!
Early stage projects and builders looking to make a commitment to build something in the Lootverse, a list which could include things like:
The Tabletop
Portals & Passageways
Banners
Lootman
Spells
…And more!
Bringing the Lootverse to life with stories and multimedia through initiatives like:
The Loot Librarium
As well as individual writers / creators / artists / musicians
Full disclosure: I intend to request grant funding as a community leader on a few initiatives, including the Genesis Scrolls (via the Open Quill Foundation), Bibliopedia, The Loot Librarium, and Loot.foundation.
Methodology:
Gitcoin’s Ecosystem Rounds invite “grantees” (teams or individuals) to make grant proposals that meet the criteria.
Then the community is invited to donate via individual, personal grants across the projects using Gitcoin’s platform. Note that this community includes people from within the Lootverse as well as people/groups across the wider Ethereum ecosystem (and beyond).
Each of these donations function effectively as a “vote” for that project, which are then used to calculate allocations for how Loot’s 75ETH is distributed across all grant proposals.
With quadratic funding, the number of unique contributors matters more than the amount funded. See here for a demo of the math and model.
→ Please refer to this Lootverse Ecosystem Round brief for details on grant eligibility and process.
Conclusion: Fuel for the Next Phase of the Lootverse
I believe that this Gitcoin grant model is a uniquely compelling way for the extremely-decentralized Lootverse community to take coordinated action to advance the ecosystem — and to advance Loot itself as a foundation for an infinitely-expansive yet still-cohesive sci-fantasy universe.
By giving a 75 ETH no-strings attached grant to this “Lootverse ecosystem round,” we can begin to fuel the next phase for the Lootverse.
And to anyone outside of the Lootverse curious about this magical experiment in collaborative world-building — welcome!
Thou mayest join us, we’re just getting started.
